Entering Our Program: What You Can Expect

The condition of a client coming into our program is all relative to the type/dosage/frequency of usage of the drug in question. In general, clients who have been abusing opioids such as Heroin or Oxycontin will require several days of supervised medical detoxification prior to their arrival in our Inpatient Program. Also, patients who have been abusing benzodiazepines such as Xanax and Colatapin, as well as alcohol will also require medically supervised detoxification for extended periods of time.

The condition of the clients upon admission to our facility varies depending on the amount of time they have spent in detox, and their mental condition prior to therapy. In general, many clients seem very confused and discombobulated, as well as sad and depressed. For many people, this is the first time they have had a semi-clear head in several years. As time goes on, and they acquire more clean time in recovery, the patient will continue ridding their body of the harmful byproducts of all the toxins ingested in the past, and will continue to develop a clearer thought process. We implement physical activity such as yoga and tai chi into our program to help with this process. The toxic byproducts of illicit drugs stores itself in the muscle fibers of the person, which takes and long time to get rid of, as well as may influence the health of the body as long as these toxins are present. By stretching the muscles and practicing meditation techniques, the muscles release these deeply stored toxins quicker, therefore detoxifying the body at a faster pace.

The reason we believe in a holistic approach to drug and alcohol therapy is for this exact reason. The body of an addict has been abused for many years, sometimes decades. A holistic approach is focused on repairing this damage; mentally, physically, and spiritually. By focusing on repairing these 3 aspects of the client’s being, we strive to give the person new to recovery a clear head to make the smart decisions they have neglected to make in years past.
