Bus Hits Gas Tanker in Southern Russia, Nearly Two Dozen Killed

A bus carrying several passengers slammed head-on into a gas tanker in southern Russia killing at least 20 people with that number expected to rise.

 

The accident occurred on a highway near Samarskoye as the bus was travelling from Krasnodar to Volgodonsk. Officials have not said what caused the head-on collision but have said the position of the tanker suggested it may have crossed into the oncoming lane.

 

According to reports both drivers were killed in the accident and of the 27 passengers on board the bus 18 were believed to be dead with remaining said to have suffered serious injuries and have been taken to a local hospital.
