Tennessee truck accident leaves a toddler and one man dead

Two people were killed Sunday morning after the SUV they were driving in collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 11E.

Police said the accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning when the SUV driven by Zu J. Wang, 45, ran into the rear of a tractor-trailer truck.

The truck driver was traveling on Burner’s Bridge Road and was crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. 11E when a SUV, traveling northbound slammed into the rear of the trailer before it cleared the intersection.

Wang and 4 month-old Jason Lui Gao died as a result of the collision. Another female passenger, Mulian Gao, 33, was critically injured. None of the passengers were wearing safety belts, but the police report indicated it would not have prevented their deaths.

The truck driver, John Esmond Jr., 60 was not injured.

Police said criminal charges were pending and also note that fog and low visibility contributed to the accident.
