UTair Flight Crashes In Siberia

A UTair flight crashed shortly after takeoff in Siberia Monday, killing over two dozen people. The Emergency Situations Ministry in Russia said the ATR-72 aircraft lost contact with air traffic control shortly after leaving an airport in Tyumen. It crashed while trying to make an emergency landing.

Only 12 of the 39 passengers on board survived. They are all in critical condition. Authorities say all four crew members were killed.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, but a spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee said human error and plane malfunction “are considered to be the most likely causes.” Authorities will review the contents on the flight data recorders in their investigation.
