Mayflower-manufactured Autoclave goes into Production in Rotherham

A new 48-tonne capacity autoclave, designed and manufactured by Mayflower Engineering Sheffield, has successfully gone into full production at Sterecycle in Rotherham.

The machine has now been installed at the Rotherham-based waste treatment company and will be in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Mayflower manufactured autoclave will help Sterecycle increase its throughput capacity to 180,000 tonnes per annum this year.

Based in Sheffield, Mayflower Engineering is one of just a few engineering and mechanical handling companies in the country to provide customers with a full design service, which includes manufacture, assembly, testing and installation, through to project completion.

They are also holders of the highly coveted BS EN ISO 3834 Welding Quality Standard, setting them apart from the rest, as the qualification is something that’s held by less than thirty companies in the UK.

Operations Manager at Mayflower Engineering, Glyn Hobson, said of the new installation:
“We're very pleased to announce that the autoclave at Sterecycle is now fully operational.

“The installation of the autoclave was completed by our team of skilled engineers and required special purpose lifting and maneuvering equipment to install and raise the new machine, which weighs around 80te, to its full working height, The full installation included both hydraulic and electrical operation and control all provided by Mayflower Engineering Limited as a full turn-key design and build contract.”

Mayflower’s team worked in close collaboration with Sterecycle’s engineers to produce an autoclave capable of meeting the company's operational demands at the Rotherham site for the next 25 years.

Mayflower specialises in bespoke, one-off designs and also take on a lot of work on a fast track basis, responding and undertaking to both design and specialist fabrication projects on a 24 hour, seven days a week basis if required.

The key ingredient for Mayflower is having a team of designers and engineers which is second-to-none, thanks to years of industry experience which benefits from Sheffield’s rich heritage.

Mr Hobson continued: “Many of our mechanical handling skills have been honed over decades. That makes us different as there are very few specialist fabrication projects that we couldn’t undertake successfully."

“We are a very proud part of ‘Made on Sheffield’, which is a true symbol of excellence recognised worldwide. Every customer we work for, where we provide the full design to completion capability, all come back to us for repeat business – and to us there can be no greater accolade”.
