Borat, the fictional Kazakhstani journalist played by Sacha Baron Cohen, finally hits theatres tomorrow. The movie, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.”, is expected to make a strong run at box office records for an opening weekend.
While Borat has isolated himself from his adopted home of Kazakhstan, the rest of the world has welcomed him with open arms. Created by Sacha Baron Cohen as a chauvinistic, homophobic, and anti-Semite, Borat travels the U.S. in search of his dream girl Pamela Anderson. His main attraction to the former Baywatch beauty? Among other things, she has more hair on her head than she does on her back, and all her teeth grow on the inside of her mouth.
Borat should have little problem toppling last weeks big winner Saw III. The horror flick brought in $34.3 million in its opening weekend, but should suffer mightily now that Halloween has past.
As for last weekends number two film, The Departed, Martin Scorsese hopes that another strong weekend could land him some more Oscar buzz. With Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon starring, the film pulled in $9.8 million in its fourth weekend and has totaled $91.8 million.
Clint Eastwood hopes that his Flags of Our Fathers can catch on with the movie goers as the critically acclaimed film has done poorly at the box office. With recent buzz surrounding Ryan Phillippe, who stars in the movie, and Reese Witherspoon the movie could pick up steam.
