Vegas teacher charged with DUI hears testimony from crash victim who lost one leg
A first grade school teacher sobbed when she listened to testimony from a 15 year-old boy that lost his left leg when she struck him while waiting at a bus stop.
Nicole Laredo, 26, was in court Monday to answer to a DUI charge stemming from the February 5th accident. The Las Vegas sun reported that Laredo sobbed quietly as she listened to testimony from Conan Obenchain, the injured high school student.
Witnesses who saw the tragic accident also related what they saw that fateful morning. According to, Darcy Sexton, Laredo passed her on the right and went through a red light on Jones Boulevard. After clearing the intersection, Sexton stated that Laredo accelerated, pulled into the lane on front of her, veered to the right and crashed into the bus stop where Conan was sitting.
Conan was thrown five feet from the bus stop onto the concrete and rocks. Sexton said she got out of her car to help stop the bleeding but Conan’s left leg was severed and his right leg was crushed.
Laredo told police that she veered to the right because she blew out a tire, though investigators did not find evidence to substantiate her claims. Laredo failed three field sobriety tests. She was charged with felony DUI causing serious injury.
