New York restaurants fighting calorie disclosure law, and red wine chemical discovered to have anti-aging effects: consumer health news from NewsTarget

The New York City department of health recently proposed a new policy that would require some restaurants - mainly fast-food chains - to disclose calorie information on their menus.

If passed, the policy would apply mostly to fast-food restaurants and New York officials estimate that the regulation would have an effect on roughly one out of every 10 New York restaurants. Fast-food chains oppose the proposal, claiming it would penalize restaurants that already voluntarily disclose nutrition information - though not on menus.

Also, resveratrol, a chemical found in red wine, was shown in a recent study to counter some effects of a high-calorie diet, improving the health of test mice and increasing their life spans.
