Formula One Driver Felipe Massa in “Life-Threatening” Condition Following Crash

Formula One driver Felipe Massa is in “life-threatening” condition according to doctors at the AEK military hospital in Hungary after he was struck in the head by a spring that had fallen off another car during a qualifying run at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

 

Massa underwent surgery for a fractured skull and has been kept sedated on a respirator while in the intensive care unit.

 

The 28-year-old Brazilian was driving when the spring struck his helmet and caused him to drive over a curb, across the track and eventually striking a barrier.

 

Ferrari released a statement detailing the extent of Massa’s injuries which revealed the he had “a cut on his forehead, a bone damage of his skull and a brain concussion.’
