Louisville dominates West Virginia, keeps BCS dreams alive

In one of the most highly anticipated college football games of the year the Louisville Cardinals left little doubt about their legitimacy as a top five team. The Cardinals racked up 468 yards of total offense and quarterback Brian Brohm threw for 354 yards as Louisville beat West Virginia 44-34.

Louisville came into the game with a number five ranking in the BCS standings while West Virginia was a solid number three in the BCS. Both teams were undefeated and looking to improve their chances of playing in the January 8th Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship.

The loss shatters those dreams for the Mountaineers of West Virginia, while Louisville still has two tough games on their schedule. The Cardinals still have to face Pittsburgh on the road and Rutgers, the only other undefeated team in the Big East.

While the Cardinals held West Virginia’s Pat White in check in the passing game, the Heisman hopeful totaled 125 yards on the ground and rushed for four touchdowns. The Mountaineers racked up 318 yards on the ground.West Virginia's second Heisman candidate, Steve Slaton, ran for 156 yards and a touchdown.

Harry Douglas and Mario Urrutia each had over 100 yards receiving for the Cardinals and they got some special teams help on Trent Guy’s 40-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Louisville was up by 17-points in the fourth quarter, never leaving any doubt as to the outcome of the game.

Louisville returns to Thursday night football next week when they travel to undefeated Rutgers, and then face Pittsburgh on the road two weeks later.
