Former Boxing Champ Vernon Forrest Shot and Killed in Attempted Carjacking

Former two-division world boxing champion Vernon Forrest was killed on Saturday night after he was shot during an attempted carjacking in Atlanta,

 

The 38-year-old Forrest had reportedly been at a gas station putting air in the tires of his Jaguar when he was approached by at least two men. At some point the men fled and Forrest pursued them on foot and was shot seven to eight times.

 

According to police Forrest was armed at the time of the chase and was struck while exchanging gunfire with the suspects.

 

Forrest finished his boxing career with a 41-3 mark with 29 KOs and twice wore the world title belt in the welterweight and junior middleweight divisions.
