Sarah Palin has formally resigned as governor of Alaska, officially handing over the office to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell during a picnic ceremony in Fairbanks on Sunday.
The former vice-presidential candidate gave little indication as to her future plans, simply telling those in attendance, “When I took the oath to serve you, I promised... to steadfastly and doggedly guard the interests of this great state like that grizzly guards her cubs. As a mother naturally guards her own, and I will keep that vow wherever the road may lead.”
Palin still had 18 months left before her term was to end when she stunned the political world with her resignation announcement on July 3. Since that time there has been speculation that the Republican could be positioning herself for a presidential run in 2012.
There have also been reports that the 45-year-old is working on an autobiography and could be leaning toward hosting a television show, something she has already denied.
