Crane collapse on New York kills one and injures 4

New York, NY- Officials are trying to determine the cause of a crane accident on Tuesday night, which took the life of one man and injured four others.

The accident occurred Tuesday night when the boom of a crane came off of its base and crashed onto a construction worker at a MTA construction site.

Michael Shimmermeyer, 30, of Burlington, New Jersey, died on the scene. One other man suffered serious injuries while three people were treated for minor injuries.

The failed crane was due for inspection this week, which was delayed, because it was in use when inspectors arrived. A thorough investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident

This is the third fatal crane accident in New York City since 2008. In the 2008 accident another man was killed when a crane failed at construction site in Manhattan. The owner of that crane is currently on trial for manslaughter.
