The Atlanta Thrashers (9-3-3) ended a two game losing streak and beat the Washington Capitals (4-4-4) 4-3. For the Thrasher Steve Rucchin had a goal and an assist and Greg de Vries did the same. Atlanta fell behind early 2-0 but scored three goals in the second period. The Caps tied it on a goal from Dainius Zubrus with just six seconds left in the second period. Rucchin’s goal gave the Thrashers the lead, 27 seconds into the third period.
Manny Malhotra scored in the 11th shootout round and the Columbus Blue Jackets (4-6-1) survived to beat the Calgary Flames (3-7-2) 5-4 on their home ice. The Blue Jackets used four power play goals to earn just their second home win of the year. Sergei Federov had a goal and an assist in the Columbus victory.
The Dallas Stars (11-2-0) continued their best start in franchise history, defeating the Edmonton Oilers (7-6-0) 3-2. Marty Turco stopped 23 shots for the Stars and Brenden Morrow added his fifth goal of the year for Dallas. Ryan Smyth scored his eighth goal of the year for the Oilers.
Anaheim (10-0-4) got four goals in the second period and cruised to a 6-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes (3-10-0). Chris Pronger and Teemu Selanne each had a goal and two assists while Sean O'Donnell added his own goal and assist to the Ducks victory. Anaheim is one of only two teams that have not lost in regulation time this year, Buffalo being the other.
