NFL Week 9 Scores: Peyton Leads Colts past Patriots

The Indianapolis Colts remain perfect on the year after heading into Gillette Stadium and knocking off the New England Patriots 27-20.

Both teams had 24 first downs, the Colts held a five yard advantage in total yards, and the Patriots actually had a one minute advantage in time possession. The great disparity between the two teams came in the realm of turnovers as the Colts coughed it up five times. Tom Brady accounted for four of those turnovers with interceptions, including one with under 1:30 left in the game and the Pats driving.

Across the field, Peyton Manning threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns as the Indianapolis Colts became the first team since the Green Bay Packers to start consecutive years 8-0. Those Green Bay Packers did it three times from 1929-31.

Marvin Harrison caught both of Manning’s touchdown passes while he totaled 145 yards receiving.

Indianapolis got a boost from their special teams as Terrence Wilkins averaged 35-yards per return after accumulating 175 return yards off of five kicks.

Playing in a Colts uniform against the team he won Super Bowl titles with, Adam Vinatieri had an opportunity to ice the game with just under two minutes left. Vinatieri missed a 46-yard field goal with 2:00 left in the game that would have given the Colts a ten point lead.

Brady took over and quickly hit Ben Watson for 25 yards down to the Colts 39 yard line, but with 1:23 left Brady’s pass to Kevin Faulk went off his hands and into the outstretched hands of Cato June. It was June’s second pick of the game and ended New England’s chance to tie the game.
