Angelina Jolie will hit the silver screen in 2014 in the live-action Disney film Maleficent. Walt Disney announced Monday the release date for the Sleeping Beauty spinoff has been set for March 14, 2014. Jolie will star as Maleficent, the evil queen who casts a curse on Princess Aurora. The film will be told from the queen’s perspective.
"It's not anti-princess. But it's the first time they're looking at this epic woman ... I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn't mean she can't have other [warmer] qualities,” Jolie recently told Entertainment Weekly.
“It's a really great script. I'm having a lot of fun. I've already got my horns fitted,” she said, adding that her six children with partner Brad Pitt are “very happy” about her new role.
Maleficent will be produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg. Elle Fanning is rumored to be in negotiations to play Princess Aurora.
