At least 19 people died and around 30 others were wounded Tuesday in two suicide attacks in Afghanistan. Authorities say most of the dead were police officers. A Taliban spokesperson told media outlets the group planned both attacks.
The first explosion occurred at a government building in the Guzara district of Herat province. Officials say the attackers drove a vehicle packed with explosives into the building while police pursued them. Fifteen people died and at least 22 others were wounded.
The second attack occurred in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province. Three men laden with explosives stormed the police chief’s office and two of the men were able to detonate their suicide vests. The third was shot and killed by police. Local officials say four policemen died in the explosions.
