Miss USA reaches plea deal for DUI charge

Detroit, MI- Rima Fakih, the first Arab-American winner of the Miss USA pageant, agreed to a plea not contest to a DUI charge she received in December.

Under a no contest plea, which may be recommended by a drunk driving lawyer, Fakih could face up to 90 days in jail. Her sentencing trial is scheduled for May 9th.

In a statement outside the courthouse Fakih said, “You learn, you pay your price for making mistakes and you move on. I’m very happy I can put this behind me.

Even though she has entered a plea she will still have to deal with sentencing and as drunk driving lawyer knows the resulting penalties can be severe and continue to affect a person’s life long after their day in court is over.

Fakih said she wasn’t drinking the night she was arrested, but police say otherwise. According to the police report, Fakih’s blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit and the beauty queen had an open bottle of champagne in her car.

Police also said that Fakih was driving 60 mph in a 30 mph zone, weaving in and out of traffic before police pulled her over.

No one should take a DUI charge lightly. When the accused hires a drunk driving lawyer to help them with these charges they may be able to have the penalties reduced, avoid jail and possible retain their driving privileges.
