Marc Anthony made his split from Jennifer Lopez official Monday when he filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court.
The superstar couple split up last June after seven years. Anthony cited irreconcilable differences in the court documents, but was not specific about the details of their split.
Anthony is seeking joint physical custody of their twin children. According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Anthony has also requested the court deny spousal support to Lopez.
J Lo has moved on from her marriage and has been open about her relationship with one of her much younger back-up dancers Caspar Smart.
Despite their romantic split the couple still maintained a business relationship, appearing in a reality show and doing promotions together.
J Lo was Anthony’s second wife and the third time she has been in a failed marriage. Couples who have been involved in more than one marriage know how crucial it is to have a divorce attorney fighting by their side.
Celebrities have many assets and business interests to protect if they cannot make a marriage work. In many cases they look to divorce attorneys to draft up pre-nuptial agreements to protect their interests and detail what kind of settlement their estranged spouses will receive if dissolution becomes a reality.
However some couples don’t choose the pre-nuptial route and instead find themselves and their divorce lawyers entangled in a legal battle to keep their property and wealth.
