Jamie, a recovered heroin addict from Pennsylvania, recalls years ago when she was at a crossroads with her heroin addiction. At the time she did not want to get drug treatment. “Even though I struggled with my heroin addiction on a daily basis, my addiction was so strong, I had convinced myself that I didn’t need treatment,” she says. “Luckily I had a family that stepped in and demanded that I go into a drug rehab program because the addiction was killing me.”
Jamie completed the Narconon drug rehab program and since has celebrated more than 6 years off drugs. Even with her successful recovery she still thinks that most addicts will not choose treatment without some type of intervention, familial or other.
And the statistics, at least for the state of Pennsylvania back her up. It was reported that during a one year period more than 250,000 Pennsylvania citizens, who reported needing treatment, never made it into a drug rehab program to get help for their drug abuse problem.
Erica Catton, Director of Promotion for Narconon East U.S. has seen the very same problems with prospective clients coming into the Narconon program. “The reasons why someone won’t get help may be different for each individual,” she says. “Some people just want to keep using. Others have had failures with different treatment methods and lose hope. We have many clients that require intervention from a family member or a loved one to get help. But once they arrive at Narconon we succeed in helping them get off drugs and stay off them permanently.”
And with a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety with clients, Narconon has been treating addicts for over 44 years through its long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment program. The reason why Narconon gets such good results with clients is because the program addresses addiction on two levels, first handling the physical aspect of the problem and then tackling the mental and emotional components.
“Many of our clients will tell you that when they arrived at Narconon, they didn’t want help,” says Catton. “But thanks to the effective technology we use to raise the ability of the individual and to clean up the mess that drugs has made for them, our clients leave our facility drug-free and are able to stay that way for years to come.”
