Magnolia Pictures and Darko Entertainment In Association with Jerkschool Productions Presented Writer and Director Bobcat Goldthwait’s GOD BLESS AMERICA

Dawna Lee Heising and John Cox attended the screening of GOD BLESS AMERICA from filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait on Monday, April 9th at the Clarity Theater in Los Angeles, CA for MoreHorror in Hollywood.  GOD BLESS AMERICA was written and directed by Goldthwait, through Magnolia Pictures and Darko Entertainment in association with Jerkschool Productions.

The film is produced by Sean McKittrick, Jeff Culotta and Sara De Lose, co-produced by Jim Goldthwait and executive produced by Ted Hamm.  GOD BLESS AMERICA stars Joel Murray, Tara Lynne Barr, Larry Miller, Aris Alvarado, Sandra Vergara, Geoff Pierson, and Tom Kenny.  Magnet Releasing Pictures will release GOD BLESS AMERICA in Los Angeles, New York and select cites on Friday, May 11.  The film will be available on VOD as of Friday, April 6.  Goldthwait says that GOD BLESS AMERICA is “a violent movie about kindness”.

The plot of the film is:  Loveless, jobless, possibly terminally ill, Frank (Joel Murray) has had enough of the downward spiral of America.  With nothing left to lose, Frank takes his gun and offs the stupidest, cruelest, and most repellent members of society. He finds an unusual accomplice:  16-year old Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement.  Goldthwait says that his wife says that the main character of Frank is just like him.  However, Frank is very solemn and unhappy, while Goldthwait is energetic and funny.

Robert Francis 'Bobcat' Goldthwait was born in Syracuse, New York, and decided on a career as a comedian at an early age.  Goldthwait's first major film role was in Police Academy 2:  Their First Assignment. He reprised the role in the next two films in the series.  One of the most recognizable features of Goldthwait's performances is his voice.  Goldthwait has released two comedy albums: "Meat Bob" on Chrysalis Records and "I Don't Mean to Insult You, but You Look Like Bobcat Goldthwait" on Comedy Central Records.  He made his feature film directorial debut with Shakes the Clown, which he wrote and starred in as well. His film Windy City Heat won a Comedia Award for Best Comedy Film at Montreal's Just for Laughs Film Festival in 2004.  Bobcat began directing “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in the fall 2004 season. Since joining the show's crew, the ratings went up to 2 million viewers a night, with the numbers rising nearly 50% with the teenage demographic. Goldthwait’s feature, "Sleeping Dogs Lie" was in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and was part of the "Independent Dramatic Features" competition.
