Little Raindrop's Amazing Day

A Children's Book about the Adventures of a Little Raindrop Who Falls From a Cloud

Water goes from rain to rivers to the sea, then evaporates to clouds and falls as rain once again. This cycle has often been used as a allegory for the life of the spirit: from life to death to life again. But never has it been done so skillfully or beautifully as in Nan Gartrell’s lovely picture book, Little Raindrop. Illustrated in magical water colors by Emilie Clark, Little Raindrop’s story is as old as time and as fresh as…well, morning rain. Little Raindrop lives on a cloud with his mother and father, and when they’re not looking, he slips over the edge and splats onto the ground. His adventures begin as he travels through the world (and the water cycle), ending up in the sea where he evaporates once more into the clouds and finds his parents, who are waiting to tell him all about jumping off clouds. An uplifting story with beautiful illustrations, Little Raindrop provides entertainment, education, and insight in terms that children can appreciate and enjoy. Author, Nan Gartrell, was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, where she and her siblings spent their summers playing at the beach and hiking in the mountains. Little Raindrop is just one of the stories Nan made up to entertain her own children as well as those in the local elementary school. Nan is still trying to make the world a better place. Her partner, artist Emilie Clark, received a BFA from Cornell University in New York and an MFA from Brad College. Her work has been widely exhibited in the United States and in Europe.
