While much of the night belonged to Brooks & Dunn and their mega hit “Believe”, it was Carrie Underwood taking the spotlight with her two nods for Female Vocalist of the Year and the Horizon Award. The American Idol winner was in tears accepting her awards and reflecting on her rise to country star, “two years ago I was sitting at home watching these very awards and watching all these other people win and having the best night of their life, and this is the best year of my life.”
Keith Urban was awarded Male Vocalist of the Year and drew a standing ovation despite the fact he wasn’t attending the event. Urban is currently in a treatment center for alcohol abuse but had a letter prepared in case he won the honor. Ronnie Dunn read the letter in which Urban expressed his thanks to his fans and his wife Nicole Kidman.
