Brett Favre told Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress that he will is not coming out of retirement to join the team, according to reports Tuesday.
ESPN's Rachel Nichols confirmed the news with several Vikings players, including kicker Ryan Longwell who received a text message from Favre on Tuesday afternoon.
Longwell told Nichols the text read, "I had to decide against it, appreciate your support but I had to make a tough decision."
Favre retired in 2008 from the Green Bay Packers, but returned to play for the New York Jets. At the end of the 2009 season, he retired for a second time, but there has been talk that he would return for a second time, this time for the Minnesota Vikings.
"I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division," Childress said to the paper. "He knows our system inside out ... This doesn't change anything about how I feel about our football team."
