New Orleans Hornets Trade Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor

The New Orleans Hornets completed a surprising trade Tuesday that will send Tyson Chandler to the Charlotte Bobcats for Emeka Okafor.

The trade gives the Hornets a better offensive player down low, while gives the Bobcats a pretty defensive center with forward athleticism.

Okafor's numbers (13.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game over the last three seasons) are slightly better than Chandler's (10.2 and 11.2), but he has gotten more shots (10.3 field goal attempts per game vs. 6.9).

Okafor will join a team with two NBA All-Stars in guard Chris Paul and forward David West, while Chandler gets traded for the second time in five months. In February, Chandler was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith, but he did not pass the physical and returned to N.O.

Originally when Chandler was traded, it was said that it was to clear salary cap room as he will make $11.6 million. However, Okafor just signed a six-year deal for $72 million last year.
