Britney Spears declares marriage “Toxic”, files for divorce

Britney Spears has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Kevin Federline, citing “irreconcilable differences.” According to papers filed the date of separation was noted as Monday.

The pop princess, known as much for her steamy videos as she was for her songs, is asking for legal and physical custody of the two children she had with Federline.

Spears married her former back-up dancer in 2004 despite Federline’s involvement with another woman, Shar Jackson. He has two other children with Jackson.

Federline has come under attack by the media for his recently released rap album and his penchant for spending his wife’s money. As part of the separation Spears has requested that her earnings and accumulations from after Monday’s separation be declared separate property.

Spears is not asking for spousal support, there has been no word on whether Federline will.
