NHL: Scores and Highlights from Tuesday Night

New Jersey (8-5-1) went to overtime and eventually won a shootout at home against the Carolina Hurricanes (7-6-3) 3-2. Jim Dowd sent the game into overtime for the Devils with his equalizing goal with 1 minute remaining in regulation. Eric Staal scored his ninth goal of the year for Carolina.
   
Alexei Kovalev scored the game winning goal in Montreal’s (8-3-3) 3-2 shootout victory over the Edmonton Oilers (7-6-1). Petr Sykora scored his eighth goal of the season for the Oilers. Montreal out shot Edmonton 36-28 on the night.

The Los Angeles Kings (5-9-3) survived a three goal third period from the Colorado Avalanche (7-6-2) and won 6-5. Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist in the Kings four-goal second period. Sean Avery had two goals and Michael Cammalleri had three assists in the win. Joe Sakic had a goal and an assist in the loss.

Tony Amonte scored two goals for the Calgary Flames (5-7-2) as they skated to a Dallas Stars (11-4-0) 3-1. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped shots. The lone Stars goal came off the stick of Antti Miettinen. Kristian Huselius added an empty netter for the Flames.

Evgeni Nabokov had 22 saves in goal for San Jose (11-5-0) and Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist as the Sharks skated past the Minnesota Wild (10-4-0) 3-1. Todd White scored his fifth goal of the season for the Wild.
