Car Bomb Destroys Police Barracks in Northern Spain, Nearly 50 Injured

A car bomb detonated outside a police barracks in the northern city of Burgos in Spain early Wednesday morning, injuring at least 46 people many of whom were wives and children of Civil Guards.

Officials have already placed blame on the Basque separatists ETA which has been trying to regroup and reassert its influence after several high-ranking members were arrested. The separatists have been fighting to gain an independent state in northern Spain and southern France since 1968 and have used terrorist attacks as a means to pursue their goal.

Wednesday’s attack stunned officials not only because of its disregard for the lives of the women and children living in the barracks but almost more amazingly that there were no casualties.
