Police Search for Darlene Haynes Killer and Missing Fetus

Massachusetts authorities are searching for a fetus that was cut from her mother’s womb in a gruesome murder. Darlene Hayes, 23, was found dead in her Worchester apartment Monday. She was nearly 8 months pregnant and the fetus had been ripped from her womb. Police believe the baby, who was due late next month, could have survived.

“We’re searching everywhere. There’s many places where this child could be,” says Worchester Police Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst.

The landlord of Haynes’ apartment, William Thompson, found her mutilated body wrapped in bedding in a closet her apartment. He entered the apartment because a strong smell was coming from the building. Haynes’ had been dead for several days before her body was found.

The cause of death has not been released, though Haynes’ great-aunt says it appears the young mother died of a blow to the head. The baby is Haynes’ fourth daughter. Haynes’ two oldest daughters, Jasmine, 5, and Lilli, 3, were being raised by her grandmother. Haynes had custody of her 1-year-old daughter Christina.

The father of Christina and Haynes’ unborn child, Roberto Rodriguez, has been interviewed by police. Haynes’ had a restraining order against Rodriguez, who allegedly pushed her into a glass table, grabbed her by the throat and slapped her.
