Nestle SA NSRGY, Are the cookies crumbling?

Nestle

There was a voluntary recall of Nestle's frozen and refrigerated cookie dough.  This came after the health department found that the cookie dough could be a possible source for E.coli in 28 states.

I'll admit to munching on a cookie just moment before writing this, it was store bought and cooked thoroughly.  I might not have the same feeling with half-baked cookie dough.

As this is written 66 people have become sick, no fatalities have been reported, however 25 people have required hospital visits and/or stays..  The culprit is hemolytic uremic syndrome which destroys red blood cells and is known to cause kidney failure in young children.

It should be stated that of those reporting illness, ate the cookie dough without cooking it, which is never a good idea and in fact there is a warning label on the cookies.

Nestle is not taking this lightly and their recall shows good company merit, even though there is also the possibility it is not the actual cookie dough causing the havoc.

"Nestle should be commended for stepping up," says Kathryn Boor, a professor at Cornell University's Department of Food Science.

According to Boor, it would be highly unusual for E. coli to be associated with the ingredients in the cookie dough.
