Seattle Mariners Pick Up Jack Wilson and Ian Snell in Deal with Pittsburgh Pirates

The Seattle Mariners became the latest club to participate in the dismantling of the Pittsburgh Pirates, picking up shortstop Jack Wilson and right-handed pitcher Ian Snell for shortstop Ronny Cedeno, first baseman Jeff Clement and three pitching prospects.

Wilson was being shopped by the Pirates after it became clear they would not exercise the option on his contract next year. The shortstop was hitting .267 with four homeruns and 31 RBIs with the Bucs and could be a central piece in the Mariners puzzle for next year.

As for Snell, the righty struggled in Pittsburgh, compiling a  2-8 mark with a  5.36 ERA in 15 starts this year.

Pittsburgh does pick up a solid prospect in Clement who was hitting .288 with 14 homeruns and 68 RBIs at Triple-A Tacoma. Cedeno is expected to report directly to the Pirates while pitchers Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock, all right-handers, will be assigned to Single-A teams.
