The Philadelphia Phillies may have missed out on landing Roy Halladay but the defending World Series champs rebounded well on Wednesday, adding 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco to their roster after a working out a deal with the Cleveland Indians.
In exchange for Lee and Francisco the Phillies will send four minor-leaguers to Cleveland: right-hander Carlos Carrasco, right-hander Jason Knapp, catcher Lou Marson and shortstop Jason Donald.
Philadelphia had been a major player in the Halladay hunt but balked at the demand of the Toronto Blue Jays, refusing to deal pitcher J.A. Happ, or outfield prospects Dominic Brown and Michael Taylor and pitching prospect Kyle Drabek.
Lee will be looked upon to fill the hole left by Brett Myers who has been on the disabled list since late May.
