A 74 year-old Union City man died Wednesday after he was hit by a truck at the intersection of Ind. 227 and County Road 600, northeast of Spartanburg.
The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday when a truck driver crashed into the rear of a motorcycle driven by Franklin Arthur, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
The initial investigation revealed that the truck driver Michael Fisher Jr. of Ohio was traveling southbound on Ind. 227 when he approached Arthur just after cresting a hill. Fisher attempted to stop but could not avoid hitting the motorcycle in the rear.
Fisher told police, “when he came over the hill (Arthur) was traveling south in the northbound lane weaving back and forth and that he tried to brake when (the motorcycle) weaved back in front of his vehicle.”
Police believe Arthur was trying to turn east onto County Road 600 because he lived in the area.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
