NBA scores and highlights from Thursday night
Drew Gooden was 10-13 from the field for 20 points and he grabbed 9 rebounds as the Cleveland Cavaliers (3-2) bounced back from their loss to Atlanta and beat the Chicago Bulls (2-3) 113-94. LeBron James added 19 points and handed out 12 assists for the Cavs who improved to 2-1 at home. Cleveland got strong games off the bench from Sasha Pavlovic, 16 points 6 rebounds and Anderson Varejao, 15 points and 7 rebounds. Kirk Hinrich finished with 20 points for the Bulls. Cleveland out rebounded the Bulls 47-30.
Baron Davis led Golden State (3-3) with 36 points and 9 assists and the Warriors handed the NO/Oklahoma City Hornets (4-1) their first loss of the year 121-116. Monta Ellis added 21 points, Troy Murphy had 20 and Mickael Pietrus had 18 points. Chris Paul led the offensive attack for the Hornets with 34 points and 10 assists while Peja Stojakovic added 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Dallas (1-4) got their first win of the year after a big game by Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki had 35 points and the Mavericks beat the Phoenix Suns (1-5) 119-112 after closing the game out on a 16-8 run. Jason Terry hit some key late game shots and finished with 30 points while Jerry Stackhouse added 23 for the Mavs. Leandro Barbosa led all Suns players with 30 points while Steve Nash finished with 20 points and 9 assists.
