One person was seriously injured and another killed in Georgia boating accident

A 59 year-old Georgia man was killed and woman was seriously injured when their pontoon boat was struck by a ski boat on Lake Lanier.

Authorities stated that at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday night a ski boat with two passengers, Steven Parker, 30, and Ashley LeBlanc, 32, struck an unidentified object near dam at the Lower Overlook Park. Their ski boat began taking on water so the couple swam to the shore and flagged down a passing car.

Police were called to the scene and began searching the water for the damaged vessel and any victims of the accident.

The rescue team found the body of Stephen Jones 30 minutes after they began the search. Jones’s passenger was onboard the vessel when it was located around 5 a.m. She was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital.

Investigators worked on re-creating the accident but stated the results of their investigation could take up to 30 days. They could not comment on whether alcohol played a role on the accident.
