Internet Fuels Prescription Drug Abuse

Easy access to online pharmacies creates increased drug use

In the last few years the amount of people abusing prescription drugs has skyrocketed. According to the White House Office of Drug Policy, illegal use of prescription drugs is now second only to marijuana use. And many are asking, why such an increase? One of the reasons is that addicts now have the help of online pharmacies who don't require a prescription for drugs like Xanax or OxyContin© making it clears that nowadays you can buy almost anything on the internet, even illegal prescription drugs.

A recent study performed by the Department of Health and Human Services states that there are almost 800,000 of these online pharmacies in operation making the purchase of illegal prescription drugs easily accessible to anyone that knows how to operate a computer.

"I used to pride myself on my ability to communicate with my children, and I always thought that I knew what they were doing." says Sharon Lewis, a mother who recently found that her son was abusing prescription drugs he purchased off the internet. "When he finally broke down and told me about his addiction, I was devastated." explains Sharon.

"I had millions of questions, one of them being, where did he get all these pills? When I found out that he was buying them over the internet I was furious. I felt like my home had been invaded by drug sellers," she says. Determined to solve the problem, Sharon began researching different drug rehabilitation programs. "I knew that he could not beat this addiction on his own. I did not want to chance relapse."

Eventually Sharon came across a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility called Narconon Louisiana. Narconon Louisiana is located just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In a business where the most popular saying is "addiction is a disease" Narconon Louisiana stands out with their belief that addiction can be fully overcome with successful treatment.
