Motorola, Inc., MOT - Revenues down 45% in Q2 for Motorola handset

Motorola, Inc.

Motorola reported that the revenues tumbling to USD 5.5 billion from USD 8.1 billion a year earlier. Operating profit edged up to USD 10 million from USD 5 million, and net profit improved to USD 26 million from USD 4 million, helped by investment gains and a legal settlement.

Company forecast a third-quarter result between a loss of 1 cent and profit of 1 cent. Earnings from continuing operations were USD 0.01 per share, including 2 cents from the one-time gains. The mobile devices division reported sales down 45 percent year-on-year to USD 1.8 billion. Shipments reached 14.8 million phones, versus 14.7 million in Q1, good for an estimated 5.5 percent global market share. The company said that it's on the process to release the new smartphones for the holiday season and is pleased with recent customer feedback.
