Flying Burrito Brothers Bassist Chris Ethridge Dies

Flying Burrito Brothers bassist Chris Ethridge died this week after battling pancreatic cancer. According to reports, Ethridge passed away Monday at his home in Meridien, Mississippi. He was 65.

Ethridge founded the Flying Burrito Brothers in 1968 with Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman and Pete Kleinow following a brief stint with The Byrds. He played bass and piano on their first album, The Gilded Palace of Sin, but left before the band released their second album in 1970. Ethridge helped restart the Flying Burrito Brothers with Parsons, Kleinow, Joel Scott Hill and Gib Guilbeau in 1975 and together they recorded Flying Again. Ethridge left the band in 1976 and worked with artists like Judy Collins, Ry Cooder and Jackson Browne. He toured with country music legend Willie Nelson for 8 years.

Nelson paid tribute to Ethridge on Twitter. "WN&F are sad to hear of the passing of Family member & friend Chris Ethridge he was a talented musician & we were honored to call him Family," Nelson wrote.
