New Jersey family loses one member after being struck by tractor-trailer

A local family faced tragedy Wednesday morning after the vehicle they were driving in was broadsided by a tractor-trailer truck at the intersection of Route 18 and Ferry Road.

Police say that a couple and their child were driving on Ferry Road in an SUV around 7:30 a.m. when they attempted to make a turn, going south on Route 18. A tractor trailer traveling north ran a red light and slammed into the SUV, knocking it sideways.

Two passengers were ejected from the SUV. All of the passengers were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, one person died after they arrived. Their identities have not been revealed pending notification of family.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The truck driver was taken to a local police station for questioning, but no charges have been filed yet.
