NBA scores and highlights from Sunday.
The LA Clippers (5-1) won their fifth straight game, beating the NO/Oklahoma City Hornets (4-3) 92-76. Elton Brand led the Clippers with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Corey Maggette had 14 points and 6 rebounds as LA sent the Hornets to their third straight loss. Chris Paul led the Hornets with 20 points but NO/Oklahoma City turned the ball over 23 times, digging themselves into a hole they couldn’t escape.
Vince Carter hit a three pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and from there the New Jersey Nets (3-2) dismantled the Washington Wizards (3-3) 105-93. Carter finished with 34 points while Jason Kidd recorded a triple–double for the Nets with 15 points, 18 assists, and 11 rebounds. Gilbert Arenas led the Wizards with 25 points.
The Charlotte Bobcats (1-5) turned the ball over 29 times against the Denver Nuggets (2-3) and lost 108-101. It was the second win in a row for Denver, who were led by Carmelo Anthony and his 36 points. Andre Miller added 17 points and 11 assists in the win. Emeka Okafor had 22 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort.
The Houston Rockets (5-2) unleashed Yao Ming on Miami (3-3) and the results were not favorable for the Heat. Ming finished with 34 points and 14 rebounds and Tracy McGrady contributed 12 points and 8 assists for the Rockets as they pounded the Heat 94-72. Shaquille O’Neil ended the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Dwyane Wade had 24 points for Miami.
Sacramento (4-2) continued to win at home, beating the Toronto Raptors (2-4) 107-92. Ron Artest had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Martin had 26 points in the victory. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 19 points.
Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Terry finished with 24 points as the Dallas Mavericks (2-4) beat the Portland Trail Blazers ( 4-3) 103-96. Portland got 20 points from both Zach Randolph and Jarrett Jack.
The LA Lakers (5-3) held on to beat the Memphis Grizzlies (1-5) 91-81. Lamar Odom led the Lakers with a double-double, 20 points and 16 rebounds and added 7 assists. Memphis was led by a double-double from Mike Miller who finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
