Yasmin Lawsuit Settlements Reach $142 Million

Yasmin lawsuit settlements surrounding Bayer’s popular line of fourth-generation birth control pills have climbed to $142 million, according to reports. These U.S. lawsuits claim that the pharmaceutical company’s Yasmin line of oral contraceptives have caused blood clots in women.  Bayer reportedly announced that it paid $142 million in settlements, averaging approximately $218,000 per case, as it resolves 651 cases which allege that its Yasmin and Yaz birth control pills cause sometimes deadly clots which can lead to strokes and heart attacks. If you or a loved one suffered a blood clot while taking Yaz or Yasmin, you may still be able to make a claim for compensation. The Yaz lawsuit settlement announcement came as the FDA ordered revised labels for Yaz, Yasmin and drospirenone-containing birth control pills to advise of a potentially higher risk of blood clots. The new Yaz label states that woman taking oral contraceptives containing the hormone drospirenone may have a higher risk for blood clots and that some studies have reported that the blood clot risk is higher for these women compared to those taking birth controls which do not contain drospirenone. In November 2011, it was reported that a study of 330,000 Israeli woman revealed that women taking Yaz and other drospirenone-containing pills were more likely than other oral contraceptive users to develop blood clots known as venous thromboembolisms.

Yaz and Yasmin users who have suffered a venous thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism (PE) or deep vein thrombosis (DVT) may be able to file a Yaz lawsuit seeking compensation for medical bills and other losses. As Yaz lawsuits are being settled, the attorneys working with ClassAction.org continue to investigate Yaz blood clot claims and are offering a free online consultation on the website.
