Ukraine authorities have labeled Friday’s explosions in the city of Dnepropetrovsk a “terrorist case.” President Viktor Yanukovych said a special team will be formed to investigate the attacks, which injured over two dozen people. No group has claimed responsibility.
The four bombs were planted inside trash cans in different areas of downtown Dnepropetrovsk and detonated over the span of 70 minutes. According to the Emergencies Ministry, one explosion happened at a tram stop and another happened near a movie theater. At least 29 people were wounded. Eighteen of the wounded remain hospitalized.
Police shutdown all train services in the city and began checking all trash cans for explosive devices.
"This is another challenge to the entire country. We are thinking how to respond it properly. I am sorry this happened,” said President Viktor Yanukovych. "I think we will get to the bottom of it.”
Dnepropetrovsk, one of Urkaine’s largest cities, is located 280 miles southwest of Kiev.
