Lawmakers propose change to laws that would make divorce difficult

Birmingham, AL- Alabama has the fourth highest rate of divorce in the country. In an effort to reduce the number of divorces, lawmakers have introduced a bill that would require couples with minor children to complete a four-hour “dissolution program.”

Under the law, anyone, who decides divorce, must complete a program that discusses the affect this could have on their minor children. After completing the program, the couple could then hire an Alabama divorce attorney to file the official paperwork and begin the process.

The “marriage dissolution education program” is primarily focused on “increasing the parents’ sensitivity to their children’s needs.” A child custody lawyer will do their best to make sure that any final settlement achieved is in the best interests of the children.

The course would also have to provide information on reconciliation and the “potential benefits.” But even with a legal separation, some couples just find that they cannot resolve their issues and must retain an Alabama divorce lawyer.

The cost of the program would be capped at $100, and for lower income individuals this fee could be waived. A judge will also be able to waive the program requirement if the person filing for dissolution can prove that they would be unable to “reasonably” complete the program.

No couple takes the decision to divorce lightly. This is often an agonizing decision, but after consulting with a family attorney they can determine what actions they can take that will not negatively affect their children.

Divorces are difficult, requiring the couple decide on how to divide their property and assets, it is necessary to have the right person fighting by your side. With an accomplished  divorce attorney, the divorcing parties will be able obtain a beneficial settlement.
