Gunmen Attack Christians At University In Nigeria

An attack on Christian worshipers at a university campus in northern Nigeria on Sunday left more than a dozen people dead, authorities confirmed Monday. According to reports, gunmen threw homemade bombs inside a lecture hall at Bayero University in Kano where Christians were gathered for an early morning church service. The gunmen then shot people as they tried to flee the building.

At least 15 people died and 22 others were treated for gunshot wounds and other injuries.

The president’s office condemned the attack in a statement. "President Goodluck Jonathan condemns the murderous terrorist attack on the Bayero University Campus in Kano yesterday and the brutal killing of innocent worshippers at the University by vicious assailants," the statement said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Islamist militant group Boko Haram has carried out similar attacks in the past.
