Friday was higher for U.S. stocks the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 33 points to 9187, the S&P 500 rose 2.9 points to 990, and the Nasdaq Composite moved up 6.4 points to 1991. Among the companies whose shares are actively trading in the session are Synaptics Inc. (SYNA), Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) and Gen-Probe Inc. (GPRO).

Synaptics (SYNA, $25.59, -$10.26, -28.62%) projected weak fiscal first-quarter and fiscal-year revenue, prompting at least three firms to cut their stock-investment ratings. The company, which designs touchpads that control the cursor on laptop computers and the modules that enable touchscreen phones, reported fiscal fourth-quarter results that slightly topped Street estimates.

Las Vegas Sands Corp.'s (LVS, $9.26, -$1.89, -16.95%) second-quarter loss, its sixth in a row, widened on charges and declining revenue as the casino giant increased its cost-savings target to about $500 million a year. Revenue fell short of Wall Street estimates.
