Merpati Nusantara Airlines Plane Disappears with 15 On Board

A Merpati Nusantara Airlines plane carrying 15 passengers and crew disappeared shortly after takeoff from Jayapura, Indonesia on Sunday. A spokesman for the Ministry of Transportation says the plane lost contact about 15 minutes after takeoff.

The Cessna aircraft was en route to Oksibil caring 11 adults, two babies, a pilot and co-pilot. “The Ministry of Transportation will coordinate and assign a team to look for the plane and the (National Transportation Safety Board ) has been alerted to investigate when we find the plane,” the spokesman said.

No other details on the flight were available.
