Each year in a couple’s marriage is traditionally celebrated with a symbolic wedding anniversary gift; the first with paper, the 25th with silver and the 60th with diamond. A lesser known but no less important marriage milestone is the 8th anniversary which is traditionally celebrated with bronze.
Nelson & Forbes create handmade solid bronze sculptures for couples who want to celebrate this anniversary with a gift that is as enduring as their love. Each sculpture comes in a beautiful gift box, also handmade, and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, hand printed from a copper engraving plate and signed by the artist, making it the perfect 8th Wedding anniversary gift.
Their endearingly entitled ‘Follow Me’ (£185.00) is hand made in England in a limited edition of just 250 castings worldwide and is a truly meaningful way to mark an 8th anniversary. Like the marriage being celebrated, gifts made from bronze become richer and more beautiful over time as their patina deepens. Bronze is also an alloy of copper and tin; the combination of the two elements is far stronger than each part individually.
Nelson & Forbes’s sculptures are cast in an English foundry using the ancient art of lost wax and each piece takes two weeks to make. The casting process encompasses fourteen separate steps and each time a piece is cast, a new mould is created and then destroyed. This means that whilst being completely faithful to the artist's original work, every piece is very slightly different to the last and therefore utterly unique.
There are 38 pieces in the 2012 Nelson & Forbes collection, which celebrate the best of traditional British craftsmanship. Prices range from £65 - £2,000 so there is something for most budgets. Nelson & Forbes sculptures are available in galleries nationwide, or can be bought directly from www.nelsonandforbes.co.uk. For stockist information please call 01442 256290.
