Four illegal immigrants killed, seven others injured in Arizona traffic collision

Four people were killed and seven others injured in an early Wednesday morning collision.

Border Patrol Agents and The Department of Homeland security were pursuing a Dodge Durango suspected of carrying illegal immigrants after it sped through the city.

Police say the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle near Florence Street and Third Avenue, then crashed through the yard of a residence. A total of eleven people were in the Durango at the time of the accident. One person was thrown from the vehicle upon impact.

Three people in the vehicle died at the scene and another passenger died at a local hospital. Seven other people were injured but police did not state whether the injuries were life-threatening.

The Durango, driven by an Eloy woman, was traveling with another vehicle, The Department of Homeland Security took the driver of the second vehicle and other people involved in the accident into custody.

Human smugglers often use vehicles to bring illegal immigrant in the country. They typically use two vehicles, one to carry the immigrants and another used as a decoy to distract police in case of pursuit.
