A fire broke out Tuesday night at Tyler Perry’s Atlanta, Georgia studio complex, damaging the outer facade of at least one building. The full extent of the damage remains unclear. No one was injured or killed in the blaze.
According to Atlanta Fire Capt. Jolyon Bundrige, the fire started before 9 p.m. Witnesses say the flames shot high in the air and loud popping noises could be heard. "The building started popping. Whatever the fire was hitting, was blowing up,” Dorothy Ware, a resident of the apartment complex located next to the studio, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Over 100 firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire. Authorities are now investigating what caused the blaze.
Perry reportedly visited the scene last night. The filmmaker has not commented.
The complex includes a 200,000 square-foot studio, a 400 seat theatre, 5 sound stages, a chapel, and a gymnasium. Perry’s work includes films like "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” ''Why Did I Get Married?" and "Good Deeds."
