The Balancing Act and Arts Attack canvass the issue-- Why Art is an Essential Part of the Elementary School Curriculum and How We Can Keep It in the Classroom?

There’s nothing abstract when talking about Art and Education.  Arts Attack is a fully comprehensive art program based on teaching the art elements and principles in a developmental/sequential fashion.  Using a large variety of media, every lesson is hands-on and process-oriented.  To brush up on this latest and innovative art program, The Balancing Act welcomes Arts Attack August 7th, 2009 airing on Lifetime Television at 7 a.m. (Eastern/Pacific—check your local listings).

Marcia Osterink, Creator of the Arts Attack’s Program says, “Their mission is to advocate the importance of art education in the elementary classroom and to publish affordable art curriculum for Grades K-8.  The Arts Attack program is designed to be successfully taught not only by an art specialist, but by a classroom teacher, parent, or volunteer.  They accomplish this through the extensive use of instructional classroom dvd’s that motivate, teach, and demonstrate a complete full-year’s art curriculum for the students -- as well as a similar curriculum for use by home educators”.

Students are motivated when using the support of art prints, demonstrations, and/or on-location video of the subject matter. Lessons, concepts, and techniques are taught and demonstrated, and often supported with warm-up exercises for students. The video shows students in the classroom working through the lesson, and each lesson ends with some samples of student artwork.  Arts Attack lessons are designed to be fun and interesting to the age group being taught.
